Data show that among 20 dogs with lumps, three will have a malignancy. Historically, options for evaluating lumps and bumps have included surgical biopsy, fine-needle aspiration (FNA), and palpation alone (otherwise known as \u201cwait and see\u201d). The reality in veterinary practice is that 3 in 5 lumps go undiagnosed. Sometimes, because the lump doesn\u2019t seem suspicious upon palpation, other times, pet owners decline FNA because of the expense or the perception that it can wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Marks reveals a new point-of-care alternative to the \u201cwait and see\u201d approach that enables general practitioners to screen lumps and bumps before needles, and that is cost-effective for pet owners: Heat Diffusing Imaging (HDI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
